Twofold Shelf BIOREGION
The NSW section of the Twofold Shelf marine bioregion extends from Tathra to the Victorian border.
The bioregion is characterised by long sandy beaches broken up by rocky headlands and numerous coastal lagoons and includes estuarine, coastal, and continental shelf habitats, supporting a wide variety of marine life.
The cool temperate waters create a distinctive species assemblage comprising of reef fish, echinoderms, gastropods and bivalves.
The biodiversity of the NSW section of the bioregion also differs significantly to the Victorian and Tasmanian sections of the bioregion, making it crucial that this bioregion is adequately protected in NSW waters.
